Frequently Asked Questions

What is YYCPrideFit?

YYCPrideFit connects the 2SLGBTIA+ community with functional fitness in Calgary. We help individuals find inclusive spaces to train (like F45®, HYROX®, or CrossFit®) and assist gyms in becoming more welcoming to queer athletes.

Are you a gym?

No. We are an advocacy group supporting 2SLGBTIA+ individuals within the functional fitness community, not a physical gym.

What is the YYCPrideFit Throwdown?

It is a 5-workout fitness competition held during Western Cup 42.

How inclusive are the workouts (WODs)?

Very inclusive. Movements are not gendered; athletes choose weights and standards based on their individual abilities.

What are the WODs?

Workouts will be announced here soon.

What's the difference between "Intermediate" and "Advanced?"

Think "Scaled" vs. "Rx" in the CrossFit® Open. Intermediate uses lighter weights and more accessible movements, while Advanced features heavier loads and higher-skill gymnastics. Judging follows CrossFit® standards.

Can allies participate?

Absolutely. Allies are welcome but must respect that this is a queer-centered event.

When does registration open?

January 3rd at 10:00 AM MST. Spots are limited, so register early.

Do I need a full team to register?

No. You can register as a "Free Agent" ($150) to be placed on a team, or as a full Team of 3 ($450).

Are social event tickets included?

No. Registration covers the competition and t-shirt only. Social event tickets must be purchased separately at Western Cup.

Where, when, how much, what is it?

Please review the Event, Schedule, and Registration sections above for full details.

I don't want to compete, how else can I help?

Join us as a spectator or volunteer! If you would like to donate, please contact us at admin@yycpridefit.ca.

Will food or drinks be provided?

No. While water will be available onsite, athletes and spectators are expected to eat meals elsewhere. Small snacks are permitted, but please do not bring full meals. Alcohol and drugs (including cannabis) are strictly prohibited; anyone found in possession will be asked to leave.

Safe Space Policy & Code of Conduct

Western Cup and our group are committed to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, neurodivergence, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.
